Monday:

  • Room set up (moving furniture, painting, hanging art, etc.)
  • Kinetic Text/Video/Slideshow:  Final touches and proofreading.  Should be done when you walk into class on Tuesday.
  • Spoken Word:  Critiques of performances.  Should be memorized with gestures by the end of the day.
  • Visual Art:  Memorize poem, finish paintings/art pieces.

Tuesday:
  • Final touches on room.  Lights, sheets, hanging art, etc.
  • TECH:  ANY PROJECT WITH A TECHNICAL ASPECT (AUDIO, VIDEO, OR IMAGE) MUST BE TO THE TECH PEOPLE BY THE END OF CLASS TODAY.
  • Kinetic Text/Video/Slideshow:  FINAL PROJECT DUE BY END OF CLASS.  Render and export.  Get to Elijah or Dusty in the required format (MP4).
  • Spoken Word:  Final day to practice and critique before the graded dress rehearsal.  Anyone with an audio track needs to get it to Elijah or Dusty before the end of class.
  • Visual Art:  Practice reciting poem.  Take a photograph of your finished art piece, and get that photograph to Elijah or Dusty before the end of class.

Wednesday:
  • GRADED REHEARSAL.  Everyone should come to class with projects DONE, and be ready to perform.

Thursday:
  • Final Rehearsal.  
  • Exhibition:  5:00-7:30

Grading
In the interest of full disclosure, here are the rubrics and standards I will be using to grade your projects.  Look at them, learn them, and adjust accordingly!

Editor Guidelines for Poems

  • Title:  Times New Roman, centered, bold, 16 pt.
  • Poem Text:  Single spaced, 12 pt, Times New Roman, justified left (unless otherwise specified by poet)
  • Edit For:  Spelling, punctuation (but check with the poet before making major changes), grammar



Work Time
  • Finalize poem, email to your editor by the end of class today.
  • Challenge meetings with Lori
  • Work on project!

HOMEWORK
Work on project, make it amazing.  Remember, Exhibition is NEXT WEEK!

Artist Statement Critiques

DHS POETRY SLAM DETAILS!

  • Where:  Durango Arts Center
  • When:  Before 5:30 if you are performing, 6:00 if you are just audience
  • Who:  Anyone who can come!
  • Reminders:  Practice, bring a copy of your poem to read from!

Conference Prep Writing
  1. What is the state of your poem?  What do you need to do before you are done?
  2. What are you planning to do for your project?  Describe in as much detail as you can (it's okay if you're still kicking around a few ideas).
  3. Do you have any concerns or questions about your project or exhibition?
  4. List, in order, the first 5-8 steps you will need to go through to start your project.

Artist Statement Critiques
Follow instructions on the Artist Statement Critique Handout.  IF YOU WERE ABSENT: You will need to find 2 people who are willing to critique your artist statement on your own time.

Adobe AfterEffects
  1. 32 bit OS: Go to the following link:  Adobe AfterEffects CS4 Trial.  Follow the directions given on this page to download and install the 30 day trial.
  2. 64 bit OS:  Go to the following link:  Adobe AfterEffects CS5 Trial.  Download and install on your computer.
  3. YouTube has tons of free tutorials for both of these versions.  Play with this over spring break, start learning techniques.  Remember, I will NOT be able to help you with this program, so if you struggle with it, this may not be the option you want to run with!

HOMEWORK
  • QUIZ TOMORROW.  Come to class ready to analyze a poem.  Review the poetic devices, and make a list of strategies you can use to analyze a poem.

  • ANALYSIS QUIZ on THURSDAY.  You will need to analyze a poem.  The quiz will be graded on your annotations and working of the poem, the analysis of the main message of the poem, and the analysis of the devices used in the poem.

  2. Describe each of the poems you critiqued today in 1-2 sentences.
