Interview Practice

Questions and Evidence
1.      10 minutes to finish brainstorming questions and come up with evidence/examples for each question.
2.      Get question bank on board

1.      Get 1-2 volunteers to come up and answer 2 questions each
2.      Whole class critique

1.      Start with gimme question, then ask 2-3 follow-up questions.  Should be at least one about cover letter/resume.
2.      Give feedback, score on rubric

Interview Preparation and Practice

Gimme Question: Why are you ready for 11th grade? (EVERYONE will be asked this question to start)
1.      5 minute brainstorm: What would be the qualities of a good response to this question?
2.      10 minutes to prepare an answer (make sure you can give examples/evidence!)
3.      Give response to table
a.       Table gives feedback: Score, + strengths and revisions
4.      5 minutes to revise answer
5.      Speed dating format- practice 3 more times, no feedback
(60 minutes)

Watch Video 1 (Chris)
1.      List the questions the students were asked by the panel (during video)
2.      Were there patterns in the types of questions students were asked?  What were they?
3.      T-chart strengths and weaknesses
4.      During debrief talk about using evidence in interviews.  How is it different from presentations?

Anticipating Interview Questions
1.      Based on the job description, write 5 questions you anticipate.
a.       Think of these as more general questions
2.      Based on your cover letter/resume, write 5 questions you anticipate.
a.       Think of these as more personalized questions, specific to you

Responses
1.      For the questions you anticipated, write down the evidence/example you would use for each question.

a.       Give them your list of questions
b.      Ask back and forth (they ask, then you ask)
c.       Make sure to balance job description questions with cover letter/resume questions

2.      Finish brainstorming evidence (if not done in class)

Resume Critiques and Revisions

Resume Gallery Walk

  1. Look at at least 5 different resumes
  2. Write down specific things people did that you liked and want to imitate.
  3. Need at least 2 items per category.  Categories are: Formatting, Categories, and Descriptions
Resume Self Critique
  1. For each category (formatting, categories, descriptions), write 3 revisions you plan to make to your resume.
  2. Show these to Lori
Revise and Finalize Resumes
  1. Lori is available for conferences and such to help you with your resumes.
HOMEWORK:
  1. Resume FINAL DRAFT.  Due Tuesday, printed at the start of class.  PROOFREAD CAREFULLY!
  2. Finish DPs and email link to Lori.  Due Wednesday by the start of class.

DP Updating, Exhibition Debrief, Room Clean Up

Room Clean Up: All furniture from home needs to go ASAP.


Exhibition Debrief
Small group discussions, with a quick check in at the end.  Talk about your experience exhibiting your poem.

  1. What was it like for you?
  2. What was the best part?  Worst part?
  3. How is it different exhibiting for an audience other than our classroom?
Project Feedback for Lori
Complete and get to me via email or handwritten.  Please answer the following questions carefully, honestly, and in depth!
  1. What skills or content did you learn during this project that’s really going to stick with you?  Explain!  Hopefully there are more than one!
  2. What activity did we do that helped you learn the most?
  3. What could I add to this project to make it more effective/engaging?  Give an example and explain.
  4. Is there anything I should take out or do differently?  Explain your reasoning!
DP REQUIREMENTS!
DPs are due on WEDNESDAY by the end of Humanities.  Here are ALL of the requirements for the year.
  1. WWI and Propaganda
    • Image of poster (with early drafts if you have it)
    • Propaganda Analysis
    • Project Reflection
  2. Genocide Project
    • Picture (or pictures) of project, and picture of you with project
    • If project is digital, link or embed project.  Also, get a copy for me to upload to my YouTube channel
    • Any substantial writing you did for the project (essay, story, etc.)
    • Artist Statement
    • Project Reflection
  3. Poetry of Peace, War, and Violence
    • Final Poem
    • Artist Statement
    • Project Reflection
    • Any art, video, photographs, kinetic text, etc. that you developed for this project (I WANT A COPY OF ANY DIGITAL PROJECTS!)
    • Link to exhibition video, once it is uploaded and edited.  This may not happen until after Wednesday.
  4. Socratic Seminars: For each seminar, you need an image that goes with the seminar (this can be something you developed, like for Jihad vs. McWorld, or something that goes generally with the topic), and your seminar reflection.  If you do not have your reflection, write one paragraph that discusses what you learned from reading and discussing the text.

During Class
Work on Reflection and DP.  You MUST finish the reflection.  When you finish, start putting things on your DP.

Specific, with examples, at least 2 paragraphs per question.

  1. Description of this project.  What was the project about?  What did you do?  What did you learn?  Think of this as an overview for people who are not familiar with the project.
  2. What have you learned from this process about how to use writing, language, and performance to affect your audience?

Exhibition Rehearsal

Reflection if you didn't pass during rehearsal:
Complete this, typed, and either email it to me or print it before class tomorrow.  You will NOT be allowed to receive a higher grade unless you complete this reflection.  Please answer the following two questions:


  1. What could you have done to be better prepared for today's graded rehearsal?  If you could create a time machine and go back in time, what would you change about how and when you prepared?
  2. What changes are you going to make to your performance for tomorrow?  
For Tomorrow:
  1. Be ready for a full rehearsal.
  2. Make sure you are dressed professionally for exhibition.  NO sneakers, jeans, t-shirts, etc.  
  3. You are ready!  Be proud of yourselves!

Exhibition Madness!

Spoken Word:

  1. Have someone (Lori or an editor) proofread your kinetic text for typos, spelling errors, etc.)
  2. Make it amazing
  3. Need to be totally finished with it when you walk into class tomorrow, so you can render and export
Visual Art Pieces
  1. Paint, paint, paint!
  2. Memorize your poem
  3. Practice reciting your poem
  4. Take a photograph of your finished art piece
Due Dates:
  1. Tuesday, end of day:  Room set up complete
  2. Tuesday, end of class: Video, audio, and photographs to tech person (Trevin or Elliott)
  3. Wednesday, start of class: ALL FINAL PROJECTS DUE
  4. Wednesday, all class: Graded Rehearsal
  5. Thursday, all class: Final Rehearsal

HOMEWORK:
  1. BRING STUFF FOR ROOM SET UP!!!
  2. Spoken Word: Practice at least once in front of your family
  3. Kinetic Text: FINISH it.  Make sure that it is fully proofread, and that if you render/export, you save the final as an mp4.
