Information
- Who: Mexico, Canada, USA (Chile added in 1997)
- When: 1994
- Why: Increase trade between these countries
- Controversies:
- Job loss
- Environmental Regulations
- National Autonomy
- How:
- Tariffs: Reduces tariffs (taxes) on good shipped from one country to another. US exports to Mexico have gone up because of this.
- Immigration and Travel: Makes transporting of goods across borders easier, allows some immigration for work under a special kind of visa.
- Labeling: Goods shipped into a country must have labels in the language of that country (French for Canada, English for US, Spanish for Mexico)
- Document 1: Follow along with Lori's reading of the document, and make the relevant notes on your note sheet.
- Documents 2-4: Analyze the documents according to the note sheets in your packet
- You may not finish today- that's fine! Get as far as you can with it. You will have more time in class to work on this tomorrow.
